Loyalty, The Bond Not Meant To Be Broken!

(Why it made sense for Chris Bosh to leave Toronto, but little sense for Lebron to leave Cleveland)

Written by: Jayi Kemp

Well if you did not witness it last night, I am sure you have heard about it by now,
the Miami Heat lost their season opener to the Boston Celtics last night. In what was declare as the game of night, we got to watch Lebron, D Wade, and Chris Bosh lose to the old big 3 (+ Shaq) in a not so intense way, in fact, the heat were getting blown out for most of the game. And with Lebron (31) doing the bulk of the scoring while D Wade (13 pts) an Chris (8 pts & 8 rbs) playing support roles to him the Heat look like a mediocre team possibly competing for a low playoff seed at best.

Which makes me think, for a man who has been all about loyalty (Lebron) why would he volt on a community, state, and teammates who loved him and his mother (Delonte) with open arms? True, I can understand him becoming restless with life in Ohio, being a fellow Ohioan I don’t blame him for seeking or desiring to move, that’s fine, but that does not mean you couldn’t of been a commute worker!

But back to the topic, after witnessing last night’s game, I thought to myself loyalty does account for something, what Lebron had in Cleveland took 7 years to develop, I don’t think it will be possible for him and his new crew to form a bond like what he had in Cleveland, now he is playing on a roster full of primadonna’s who have been the guy for so many years, that I think it will be impossible for them to totally adapt back to the team concept, in the end I think Miami will be the best looking team ever on papers, but I am not sure that will ever transfer over to championships, like what they are planning on.

What made Magic successful was that he knew his teammates, he trusted them and for that he was awarded with an assist, nobody is able to accumulate a(n) assist without the other teammate scoring it’s not possible. And what about Michael Jordan, arguably the best player of all time, what about him jumping to go play with Barkley, it would have made for some news worthy coverage, but in the end I doubt it would had transfer over to a winning situation, but then again we are talking about Michael Jordan, so anything is possible.

But if we all can recall about a year ago Lebron released a documentary called “More Than A Game” it was a documentary about Lebron and his childhood basketball friends, it was an excellent movie, one that I would highly recommend, but the thesis of the movie, was all about loyalty. So I am just wondering was Miami really a emotional decision based on pressure added by the media, that Lebron could actually fail an expectation, when he has succeed in just about everything he has ever wanted to do?

I don’t know, but after watching his new Nike commercial and seeing him on the court last night, I could not help but think why Lebron, why? What you had in Cleveland was special, sure we Ohioan’s will scowl at you if we feel your’re not giving us your best, but that is no different for Tressel if he would lose to Michigan. Bottom-line Lebron, you were once a King with a loyal army around you, but now you’re just a talent on a load team that realistically won’t be able to live up to the hype, so Mr. James, how long can we plan for you to be loyal to this situation before you bolt?
