WHAT HAPPEN TO TOLEDO PRIDE?

WHAT HAPPEN TO TOLEDO PRIDE?

Being that I was born and raised in Toledo, Ohio it’s safe to say I have Toledo pride. I have seen Toledo go from a piss stop en route to Detroit to a city on the cusp of being something more then a Greyhound hub station for tourist traveling interstate 75.

The progression Toledoans have made to modernize the Glass City is very commendable, but the lack of influence on our youth is very disturbing. You would think that a city which has birth the likes of Katie Holmes, Jim Jackson, Jamie Farr, Lyfe Jennings and so on, would see the value of protecting and cultivating its own, right?

I would think so, but I am not so sure about that anymore, I remember seeing current Mayor, Mayor Mike Bell walk with philanthropist Dr. William Cosby last year not to long after CoCo’s murder over in the Smith Park area, I was inspired, I felt hope, I just knew things would be different under Mike Bells authority, but sadly like so many fellow Toledoans, I am left speechless stun by what is happening.

Toledo is becoming a death trap to our youth, young adults, and elderly, Toledoans are murdering each other over the dumbest of things, I’ve been home for  a couple of days to take care of some unfinished business but later today I will have to say good – bye to a childhood friend (R.I.H. Country Chris) and prepare to say good – bye to a few others, because since last Thursday I lost 2 more associates to a homicide.

Which leads me to ask, what has happen to Toledo Pride?

Toledo is doing something I never thought it would do, ever! Toledo is making itself relevant in the 21st century, I thought the Mud Hens moving downtown was huge for the city, but this Hollywood Casino will put Toledo somewhere I can’t predict.

And with all that positive movement occurring in my hometown, I am so happy that I will see its growth and maturity happen from a distances, because just like most locals from our beloved city, I had enough common sense to move from off Hill avenue before I allowed it to corrupt me like I am noticing it (the streets) buried others I know, or know of.

The economy is horrible, the jobs are scarce, TPD cuts and a slew of other issues have made things a little bit more trying, but there still is no excuse for all of these killings, lets step it up Toledo, this is our future at stake!
