Unlike most hip – hop fanatics, lovers, enthusiast, my love for hip – hop started in the church, that’s right people I am talking about none other than MC Hammer.
Hammer was to me what Elvis was to rock and roll, he was talented, trend setting, and cool to be hip too, I don’t know why I am sharing this with you but my love for MC Hammer as a child was ridiculous, lol, not only did I have the 3 parts on the right side of my head, I had the parachute pants, knock off dress shoes, and yes people, both hammer dolls in gold glitter and pinkish raspberry purple (LMBO). But the point I am trying to make here is that I was a fan, not until recently when some of my good friends and I went to a Wale concert have I felt the same or some level of admiration for a hip – hop artist as I had since Hammer was prime time, but with musicians (as I refer to them) such as Wale, and Lupe Fiasco representing as well as a few others, I am assured that the musical style known as hip – hop still has a heartbeat, they are so different than the others that I wonder why everyone else doesn’t at least try to mimic something about them, instead of segregating their music they make it appeal to the masses without selling out to corporate and I applaud them for them, that’s why I am all smiles knowing that Lupe is not going to deprive us any longer of that good music that we so desperately need, fellow hip – hop heads let’s turn off that “tootied on the booty” are whatever the heck that they are playing, and prepare ourselves for some good music once again, thanks Lupe!
