As I write these words I know that I am talking with a double edge sword, because at times, I myself discriminate towards others who are in the same boat as I have once been in, and that boat is the law.
Getting in trouble with the law is as easy as brushing your teeth in the morning now days, with all the budget cuts, city debt, and growing crime rates escalating to new highs, achieving a criminal record and being disbarred from about everything life has to offer is easier than making a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Life hands people hardships and not every crime is fitting the bill, in fact, some things are just outrageous, do you know, if you have a felony on your record and you serve your time, pay your debt to society, that you can still be denied your expunge hearing because of traffic violations, and no I am not talking about DWI’s, but moving violations, car accidents, and driving with a suspend licenses. Call me what you may, but I find it a tad bit silly that we have laws in place to halt someone from the pursuit of happiness due to a moving violation, I just don’t get it. Society has us taking a hard stance on issues but we really live in a blur society, meaning that, we are more so in the grey then either black or white. I myself have no problem writing off someone who is not at least attempting to better themselves, but I do have a problem trying to slaughter someone because of poor decisions they made in the pass when it’s obvious they are trying to better themselves. Bottom line it would be nice to see something more done in our communities to help individuals redeem and make it in society with a decent chance, because not everyone is bad, if America reviewed people by a case by situation I am sure we could dispel the myth that every ex- offender is bound to repeat (granted some do) again. But then again we all know it only takes a few bad seeds to ruin anything that could our would be done to assist ex – offenders in a more impact type of way, but this is just me ranting, what is your stance on assisting ex – offenders, could you see yourself being an advocate to help redeem individuals caught up in the system?
