The Trayvon Affect …

Has it Affected you yet?

The Trayvon Affect
Written By: Jonathan “Jayi” Kemp

Remove the color of his skin and what you have is an open and shut case about a man who killed a 17 year old boy who had no weapon of any sort other than a cellphone, ice tea, and a bag of skittles. Now add color to that child and identify his shooter as a White/Hispanic male and we have perhaps the greatest expose injustice in US history (in my opinion); the Trayvon Martin case.

A case unlike any other case I have seen before, a case filled with racism, stereotypes, and quite possibly police cover ups. The injustice that has been expose in the Trayvon Martin case has put our country in a uncomfortable place that we all were aware still exist, but have been able to suppress or not bring up because of “social advances” in our country by the likes of; President Obama, Colin Powell, and countless other (minority) Americans.

But from my observations that grace period may be over with … last night I was watching the Piers Morgan show on CNN and seen first handily how the Trayvon Martin case is affecting America.  I watch two respectable journalists (in my opinion) Piers Morgan & Toure go round for round with each other as if they were in a boxing match.

On 1 side of the split screen I watch Piers Morgan attacking Toure for his comical twittering about Zimmerman and on the other side of the split screen I witness Toure ridiculing Piers Morgan for having Robert Zimmerman Jr. as a guess on his show the night prior. For both journalists I chuck up last night as an emotional defensive rant in which case neither one of them were able to effectively get their point across to the other one, because of the emotional state they both found themselves in.

The Trayvon Martin case will eventually have some sort of resolution to it, but what will happen with the state of our nation afterwards, will we be able to repair ourselves after the aftermath of this event, or will we forever be scared by this tragedy and not able to bounce back as we have done so many times before. What will ultimately become of us because of the Trayvon affect is something that I cannot phantom as of yet, it’s scary to think of the possibilities, but even that is a unknown, so until the next time people, peace & love, Social Jayi ...
